Big Umbrella's Services

We currently run two main services: Outreach Service and Social Groups. However we are a flexible company who are willing to offer individualised services if we can, so please contact us with any specific requests.  Referrals can be made by completing the referral form and emailing to bigumbrellasupportservices@googlemail.com Please feel free to contact us for a referral form.

Outreach Service

This is a 1:1 service (2:1 where necessary) where an outreach worker will pick up a child/young person from a designated point of convenience for the family (e.g: home, school, at an activity) and take the child/young person out in the local community to access a range of facilities/activities. Sessions will be tailored to individual needs and requirements, teaching social skills, appropriate social behaviours, and working upon personal issues such as reducing anxiety. We aim to make these sessions fun for the child/young person and we recognise that they offer a form of respite for parents and carers.

Social Groups

These are an after school service, which aim to give children/young people the chance to work in small groups of similar aged and ability peers. The groups look at a range of social skills and are tailored to both individual and group needs, such as conversational skills, turn-taking skills, life skills e.g: accessing public transport, purchasing goods in a shop etc..Working in small groups allows for the individuals to have the time and space to ask questions specific to social situations and develop peer relationships with like-minded individuals. This service will be mobile and we will hire local space to facilitate the groups. The benefit of this is that the service is truly brought to the individuals and will not be dependent upon the personal transport circumstances of families/individuals.

Our training service is open to anyone who would like further information about Challenging Behaviour and/or Complex Needs.  During the course of this year we are hoping to offer specific training courses, look out for these in our Events/News page.  Ideas and suggestions for training are welcome and can be sent for our consideration.
